Saline Tattoo Removal

The Gentler Option: Saline Tattoo Removal

While tattoos are intended as permanent, it’s comforting to know that if you change your mind, it’s possible to remove them partly or completely. The usual method is by laser, where intensified light penetrates the pigmented skin, breaking the ink up into tiny particles and pushing them deeper into the dermis. Once there, your lymphatic system absorbs and safely eliminates the particles. Laser removal works on any ink colour and is appropriate for most tattoos on the body, including cosmetic eyebrow tattoo removal. However, tattoos on more sensitive areas such as cosmetic eyeliner cannot have laser, so we recommend saline tattoo removal.

Fast Facts About Saline Tattoo Removal

While laser works by pushing pigment into the skin, saline tattoo removal uses osmosis to lift pigment to the skin’s surface.

What is osmosis? Technically, osmosis is a process where molecules suspended in a liquid move across a membrane to equalise their concentration on either side of the membrane. Utilising this natural process, we apply a highly concentrated saline solution to draw salt molecules (suspended in the moisture of the dermal tissue) through and onto the skin's surface. The salt lifts the ink particles out of the skin, where the pigment becomes part of the resultant scab.

● Is it safe? The concentrate we use is made from natural, non-acidic fruit seed extract and manufactured under sterile conditions in a state-licensed and regulated laboratory. Our highly trained technicians use medical grade equipment approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration). Although there is no harm to the skin because everyone’s skin is different, we cannot completely rule out some scarring or hypo-pigmentation. Before the removal process, your consultant will advise you of any contraindications and precautions, and you will also receive aftercare instructions to ensure the best results.

● How long does it take? Creating a tattoo takes time, and so does removing it. Depending on the extent and depth of the pigment, you may require one to ten+     sessions to achieve the desired result. We may also decide to remove some of the pigment and then re-tattoo using corrective pigment to neutralise the underlying colour.
